On Friday 10 November, the Friends of Sydney Town Hall, a registered not-for-profit organisation that conducts tours and organises events to conserve items in Sydney Town Hall and acquire works of art for its civic collection, hosted a private viewing of the Sydney Town Hall exhibition, Our City: 175 Years in 175 Objects, to celebrate the 175th birthday of the City of Sydney.
The well-received exhibition ran from 27 October to 12 November 2017 and was curated by the City Curator, Ms Margaret Betteridge; City Archivist, Mr Michael Smith and City Historian, Dr Lisa Murray.
The Sydney Sake Society was a proud sponsor of this event and partnered with JFC Australia to provide guests with three varieties of sake from Hakutsuru Sake Brewing Co Ltd and Suntory the Premium Malt’s beer.
This invitation-only event also welcomed a number of VIP guests from Japanese government organisations including Mr Keizo Takewaka, Consul General of Japan in Sydney; Mr Hiroyuki Nakazato, Managing Director of JETRO Sydney; Mr Yoshihiro Wada, Director of the Japan Foundation Sydney; Mr Katsunori Kamibo, Director of the Japan Local Government Centre (CLAIR, Sydney) and Ms Kana Wakabayashi, Executive Director of JNTO Sydney.
Other notable guests included Mr Seiji Takaramoto, Vice President & Regional Manager Australia & New Zealand of Japan Airlines; Mr Ryo Sadayuki, Vice President & General Manager of ANA Oceania Region; Mr Hideo Dekura, Sydney-based Japanese Cuisine Goodwill Ambassador; Mr Kentaro Yoshida, Sydney-based Japanese artist and illustrator, and Mr Kian ‘Horisumi’ Forreal, Sydney-based tattoo artist specialising in traditional Japanese style tattooing.
